Jeremiah 48

Of Moab. Jehovah of Armies, the God of Israel, says: “Woe to Nebo! For it is laid waste. Kiriathaim is disappointed. It is taken. Misgab is put to shame and broken down.

  • Gn 19:37, Nm 24:17, Nm 32:3, Nm 32:37-38, Nm 33:47, 2Ch 20:10, Is 15:1-9, Is 25:10, Is 27:3, Je 9:26, Je 25:21, Je 27:3, Je 48:22-23, Ez 25:8-11, Am 2:1-2, Zp 2:8-11

2The praise of Moab is no more. In Heshbon they have devised evil against her: ‘Come! Let’s cut her off from being a nation.’ You also, Madmen, will be brought to silence. The sword will pursue you.

  • Nm 21:25-30, Nm 32:37, Es 3:8-14, Ps 83:4-8, Is 15:1, Is 15:5, Is 16:8-9, Is 16:14, Is 25:10, Je 25:15, Je 25:17, Je 31:36, Je 33:24, Je 46:28, Je 48:17, Je 48:34-35, Je 48:42, Je 48:45, Je 49:3

3The sound of a cry from Horonaim, desolation and great destruction!

4Moab is destroyed. Her little ones have caused a cry to be heard.

  • Nm 21:27-30, Es 8:11, Ps 137:9

5For they will go up by the ascent of Luhith with continual weeping. For at the descent of Horonaim they have heard the distress of the cry of destruction.

  • Is 15:5

6Flee! Save your lives! Be like the juniper bush in the wilderness.

  • Gn 19:17, Jb 30:3-7, Ps 11:1, Pr 6:4-5, Je 17:6, Je 51:6, Mt 24:16-18, Lk 3:7, Lk 17:31-33, Hb 6:18

7For, because you have trusted in your works and in your treasures, you also will be taken. Chemosh will go out into captivity, his priests and his princes together.

8The destroyer will come on every city, and no city will escape; the valley also will perish, and the plain will be destroyed, as Jehovah has spoken.
